We’re having our own snow day.

Posted in Day-to-day | 4 Comments »

Yesterday a young pregnant woman was in an accident while driving on the slippery roads and was killed. Her baby was delivered via c-section and is doing well. It is sad and horrible.

This morning a young teenage girl was in an accident and died. Again this was because of the roads and the weather. Watching the news about her accident was one of the saddest things I’ve seen in a long time. She was only 19.

Slip sliding This morning after dropping my daughter off at school, we almost got stuck in the snow just leaving the street her school is on. We finally made it out to his store and decided it was just far too unsafe to deliver the valentines to the radio, so we sent them by fed-ex.Drifting snow

On the way back home, we were driving between 5-10 miles per hour. The snow drifts were just huge and suddenly we slammed into a huge snow drift and we were stuck. My husband got out and I slid over the driver side, he tried pushing the car while I tried pushing on the gas a little. The wheels just spun and spun. A nice guy with a huge truck came and pushed the car from behind while I drove. It was super scary when I saw the car being pushed towards the ditch and almost into a mailbox, but thankfully the drift ended and I was able to turn away from the ditch.

BuriedWe made it home, but it was a scary the entire way home. My husband got a call on the way home and he was needed to go to another store to help the LP person. By the time they needed him it was almost time for school to get out and I had to go get them myself. The wind and the drifts were the worst part but I manged to get them both picked up and we’ve not left since.

My husband on the other hand is still not home yet. I don’t want to go into details sinceOur snowman it is not my place but he’ll be working closer to home for the next couple of weeks as well as working in his own store too.

Roads tonight The weather guy says we will only get a little bit of snow tomorrow, but the roads are still very slick and I have no intention of taking my kids to school. Especially after hearing that a bus went off the road this morning and into a ditch. The brown bus company said, well… yeah but there weren’t any students on it. I don’t give a rats behind, I’m not doing it. We shouldn’t have had school today and it was stupid of them not to cancel it. I don’t care if we have to go a couple of extra days at the end of the year.

So we’re staying up a little later tonight and we’re sleeping in. I’m not even bothering to get up to see if the school was closed. I have called an official snow day for the Groovy Family.

Thankful.

Since my husband and I are going to the radio station today, he decided we’d just go into his work together after dropping off the kids. I am so glad he did this, because even though his car is excellent on the snow, he still slid off the road when making a turn. Our kids should not be in school today, the roads are sheets of ice and the wind is pushing cars off the road. He had to carry my son into the building because the walkway was so slippery there was no way my son could walk it without falling down. He was pissed and so were many other parents. Needless to say I am so thankful he drove today and I didn’t have to. Now we’ve got to drop off the oldest and then make our way to his work which normally takes 30 – 40 minutes will easily take us 1-1½ hours. There damn well better not be school tomorrow. I know it is important for kids to attend school but it is not more important than their safety to get to school and their safety once at school. There are still many schools closed today and ours should have been one of them.

More freaking snow!

“They” say we’ll be getting more snow tomorrow. Another 3+ inches. Valentines for the troops

Valentines for the troops I’m supposed to go with my husband to deliver the valentines to the radio station. I quit making cards because the kids at school quit making cards. We’ve got a little over 600 depending on how many my husband got at work. He ran a promo for us to help. I doubt we’ll win. But we’re happy that the soldiers will get the cards. That is, if I can get to town with all this snow.

Bedtime.

Nightime Tree

I took this picture out of my son’s room. Well, the room he used to sleep in… we haven’t given it a name yet. It currently holds my treadmill, two tv’s with all the game systems, his totes and his clothes in the closet. I guess you could call it a game/exercise room? Anyway, I just liked the way the tree looked. You can see the shoveled driveway in the background and you get a redish glow from the red rope light coming from my son’s window. It is pretty no?
